From September 28th Joining Communities will be holding regular Community Coffee Evenings.
These will run on the last Friday of every month from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The sessions allow anyone who may be curious about Joining Communities to come and take a look at our centre in Lilford House, and sit and chat about things that are happening at both our centre and throughout the community. As you may be aware, there are majour changes to the way benefits will be paid and with the fast coming Universal Credit; therefore, people will need to know how to make payments to their rent accounts and council tax payments online however If at home you don’t have access to the internet you can come in and use one of the computers in our IT suite to go online and get support. At these coffee evenings there will be opportunity to meet with the local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who will be running a surgery for those who want help, advice and support.
So come along and have a cof ...

We have made some changes to our weekly work clubs. They are no longer split into age groups, Work Clubs are now open to all ages above 16 and at any of the specified times. From now on the morning sessions will be from 9:30 to 12:00, here you can register, and learn the Online Basics. From 1:00 to 3:00 a structured session will run, rolling over a four week period, this session will include confidence building activities, CV writing, working on interview skills and form filling, and social media.
However for anyone looking to come in the afternoon, but not wanting to join in on the structured sessions, you can use the IT suite to do a basic job search, self-facilitated; there will be an administrator in the IT suite to support you, should you need any help.
This New Style Work Club will begin on the 7th of September after a one week break after the current Work Club ends 24th August.

First of all we have the Star Partners (UnLtd). The project is scheduled to start later this year in October, with the purpose of supporting individuals in Leigh West to ‘Try’ an enterprising idea in their community. With this we hope that people will discover their idea is successful. We can then support them into developing this further and potentially develop it into a Social Enterprise and work towards further funding opportunities.
Another of our upcoming Programmes is the 50+ Enterprise. Programmed to begin later this year, this project is for anyone who is over 50, and are on work related benefit and are looking to possibly start a Social Enterprise or enterprising programme of their own.
In September/October we will be beginning our NEET Project for a second time. This Project is a confidence building programme, where young 16-18 year old people can learn helpful skills and do activities tailored to their needs.
Joining Communities will be starting a range of Crea ...

It’s hard to miss the buzz about the Olympics and I’m sure you have heard how well Team GB are doing. It is day 11, and Britain has 40 Medals, 18 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze. We are on our way to break our record set last Olympics in Beijing. I don’t think anyone watching can’t be inspired by all of the hardworking athletes. They represent how a little hard work and devotion can be used to drive you to your goals, and help you achieve success. Of course I don’t mean for just sports, for anything you put your mind to, you can’t get anywhere by taking the easy way out, and although it might seem hard, pushing yourself to go that extra mile will be worth it in the end.
However, here at Joining Communities we understand that some people may feel intimidated, and lost. That’s where we come in. We are here as a helping hand to guide you through your first steps to success, and to show you that it isn’t as scary as you think, and to help your realis ...

At Joining Communities our social purpose is to raise awareness throughout the community of any opportunities that are available for them to both support their skill building and enhance their life.
Joining Communities became incorporated in October 2010, based at Lilford house, St. Helens Rd on the outskirts of Leigh, in the Wigan borough. Following support from the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE), we have been working alongside them and a variety of other organisations to achieve the best possible results on any venture we begin.
Overall we aim to encourage the residents of the Wigan borough to actively participate in their community, and develop educational activates to help maximise the personal potential of any given individual.
We run a variety of projects at our centre, Lilford House, to support anyone who is looking to find employment, or looking to start their own enterprise. Said projects can help to equip people within different communities with the necessary skills ...
